2019 Q3 Review

As another season gets underway, I am excited to announce that I have been selected as a finalist for the music director position with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra! As part of my audition for the job, I will be preparing and conducting a concert on March 14, 2020, featuring music by Beethoven, Schumann, Dag Wirén, and the Odawa composer Barbara Croall.

Several musical projects occupied the summer months, beginning with a 10th anniversary celebration for Soup Can Theatre, an organization I’ve been with since its inception. Then, for the second year in a row, I conducted a number of brand new works as part of the Art Song Collaborative Project’s Cries of the Earth concerts, including the whimsical and poignant “Albatross Smorgasbord” by Alex Eddington. Finally, the Rouge River Winds summer concert “To the Moon” featured the wonderfully evocative second symphony, Seas of the Moon, by Robert Buckley.

In addition to the CBSO concert and an exciting season with RRW, I am also really looking forward to working with the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra this fall, stepping in for my colleague Colin Clarke to rehearse the ensemble in preparation for a concert with composer-conductor Johan de Meij in November.
